how were you able to use a microscope? that'd be worth looking into

I ran a microscopy lab and taught the subject at a local college for almost 10 years (undergrad Histology and grad-level SEM and TEM courses). I can still get "beam time" if I ask. =)

Probably out of luck unless you take some college classes in the subject...

Unlike a light microscope, it takes substantial advanced training to use EMs. We would typically spend 6 weeks on specimen preperation, vacuum systems and electron optics before the students got to use the machines without direct faculty supervision.
